Voll orientalisiert strickte ich aus den Resten der Wolle ein Kalifenstiefelchen, zu nichts nütze, aber in weiser Voraussicht mit einer Schlaufe für den Christbaum versehen. Obwohl, mit Lavendel befüllt wäre es ein guter Hüter meiner Schätze "Sesam schließe dich und laß keine Motten herein".

Completely orientalised, I knit the rest of the yarn into a Caliph-booty. Absolutely useless but in a moment of brillance it was donned with a small loop for the Christmas tree. Although, filled with lavender, it would also make quite a good guardian of my treasure: "Sesame, close your doors and do not let in any moths!"

Da ich letztes Wochenende wegen unseres verblichenen Computers nicht schreiben konnte, blieben meine Dornröschensocken in der Schublade, ungesehen und unerwähnt. Für einen hundertjährigen Schlaf viel zu schade, darum weckte ich sie heute auf und fotografierte sie stilecht mit "Raubritter"Rosen.

And because of my fiasco with the computer last weekend, my Sleeping Beauty (Dornröschen) socks had to stay in the drawers, unseen and unheard. Too much of a shame for a century-long sleep and so I woke her up today and took a photo of her, genuinely to the style with "Raubritter" roses ("Raubritter", lit. robber baron - in this case, it's a German specie of rose, a cross between "Daisy Hill" and "Solarium")

Das Muster ist so alt wie Dornröschen selbst und heißt Glöckchenmuster. Zugegebenermaßen sind es Glocken die auf dem Kopf stehen und sehr gut als Blumenvasen verwendet werden können.

The pattern is as old as Sleeping Beauty herself and is called "Tinkerbell Pattern". Admittedly they are upside-down bells and could just as well be used as vases.

Dieses Muster hat seine Tücken, es entwickelt sich sehr breit und ist mit 55 Maschen immer noch reichlich. Erfahrene Sockenstricker wissen wie man bei der Sohle mogelt um die richtige Maschenanzahl bei dem glatten Teil zu bekommen.

This pattern can be tricky: It can become very wide and with 55 stitches, it will become extremely wide. Experienced sock knitters would know how to deal with the sole in order to get the correct stitch count for the flat part.

Völlig unerwartet und schnell trat er diese Reise an, seine letzte Reise. Kein Wort des Abschieds, keine letzte Möglichkeit die schönen und wertvollen Aufzeichnungen zu sichern, um all die unbeantworteten Mails und Adressen zu retten.

Absolutely sudden and quick, it decided to take off on its trip. Without an "Adieu", no last chance to back up all the lovely and prized records to rescue all the unanswered mails and all the addresses.

Ich möchte mich an dieser Stelle entschuldigen und ihn in Schutz nehmen. Viele Jahre erfüllte er treu und brav seine Aufgaben, seid ihm bitte nicht böse.

Danke für Euere netten Willkommensgrüße. Ich hätte nie gedacht gleich beim ersten Eintrag Rückmeldungen zu bekommen, noch dazu so liebe. Natürlich weiß ich um die Kommentarfunktion und daß ich sie auch benützen kann um schnell und unkompliziert zu antworten.

Thank you for all of your lovely welcome greetings. I never imagined that there would be any response for the first post...and even that nice! Of course, I know about the comment and that I can use it to answer to your comments quickly.

Aber zu meinen "Kniestrümpfen" möchte ich gerne noch etwas erzählen. Es sind OVERKNEES, extra konstruiert für eines dieser Plastikbeine, die ich mit auf Märkte nehme. Der Name Storchenbein kommt nicht von ungefähr! Bei diesem Beinersatz ist die Paßform perfekt, bis auf die verkrüppelten High-Heel Füße.

Anyhow I'd still like to tell you a bit about my "Knee-high". They are OVER-KNEES: Constructed especially for on of these plastic leg that I take to the markets. The name "Stork-Leg" didn't just come from nowhere! The form of the leg is perfect apart from the high-heel clubbed foot.












Mein lebendes Modell hat die zauberhaftesten Beine, die man sich vorstellen kann. Liebe Kathrin es tut mir wirklich sehr leid, daß ich nicht besser fotografieren kann.

Eigentlich sollte/dürfte ich keine neuen Farben mehr machen. Das Lager platzt aus allen Nähten und die Plastikboxen stapeln sich in gefährliche Höhen. Trotzdem, ich konnte nicht anders und das kam dabei zustande.

Actually I should not / am not allowed to make new colourways. The storage is already bursting at all seams and the plastic boxes are piling up to such dangerous heights. Nevertheless I can't just not do it, and this is the result:

In verstrickten Zustand verblüffte mich der melierte Farbverlauf etwas und die Farbwirkung ist eine ganz andere, als beim Strang. Der Apfel hat keinerlei Bedeutung, den benutzte ich nur um die Ferse auszustopfen. Es irritierte mich sogar so stark, daß ich den Knäuel umwickelte und vom anderen Ende her einen Wellenschal anfing. So stimmen die Farben wieder und ich rätsle welche Seite ich auftrennen soll.

Knitted up, the mottled colour runs somewhat amazed me and the colour effect is absolutely different from the skein. The apple has absolutely no meaning. I'm just using it to fill up the heel. I really irritated me so much that I re-wound the skein and use the other end to start a chevron scarf. And thus the colours is now as it should be...and I can't decide what I should frog.

Nun grübele ich seit Tagen wie mein neues "Baby" heißen soll und mir fällt absolut nicht der treffende Name ein. Gedankliche Ausflüge in´s Reich der Süßigkeiten, Eiscremes oder karibischer Begriffe mag ich nicht besonders. Es sieht aber leider wie die Fantasiamischung von Haribo aus. Ich würde mich deshalb sehr über Euere Mithilfe bei der Namenswahl freuen, als Beraterhonorar gibt es einen Strang von "...............?"

I've been pondering for days now what my new "baby" should be called and the appropriate name just doesn't want to come to me. I didn't really like the excursions to the realm of candies, ice-creams or Caribbean that much. It just seems to me like the Fantasia mix-pack from Haribo. And thus, I would be so happy to get some help from you for the choice of the name. As a reward, you will get a skein of ".....?"

P.S. Aufmerksame Meisenbeobachter fragen sich:"was ist mit Nr.41?" Number 41 wird gerade verstrickt, hat einen wundervollen Namen und ist bald zu sehen!

Von Blaustrumpf bis Storchenbein - Socken

Endlich ist es soweit, meine neue Website ist online und ich bin nun auch frischgebackene Blogbesitzerin. Eine Tatsache, die ich für mich persönlich niemals für möglich hielt, da mir Worte nur sehr spärlich aus dem Mund sprudeln, bzw. aus der Feder fließen. Vielleicht schaffe ich es ja irgend wann einmal und schreibe genauso warmherzig, interessant und "voll aus dem Leben" wie ich es bei Euch tagtäglich lesen kann.
Wie beginnt man einen Blog, speziell einen Strickblog?
Sachte, sehr sachte!
Ich gestehe, die Technik macht mir noch etwas Kopfzerbrechen und die Wahl des Themas auch, darum beginne ich schlicht mit Socken.

Finally it's here. My new website is online and I'm the proud owner of a blog. This is something that I personally would never have thought possible, since words leave my lips pretty much sparsely, not to mention just writing things down. Maybe one day I would be able to write something as warm-heartedly, as interesting and as "full of life" as what I've been reading day-in and day-out on your blogs.

How does one begin a blog, especially a knit-blog?
Gently, very gently!

I have to admit that the technology is giving me some headaches and so does the choice of topics, and so I thought that I should begin simply with socks.





Die Idee: Helle Birkenrinde und Indisch Rot, exakt die Farben von Koi´s

Der Traum schlechthin für unsere kleine Pfütze von Teich

Nach diesem langen harten Winter starben meine zwei kleinen Koi´s "Sho" und "Ping", die ich letzten Sommer in einem Anfall von Kaufrausch erstand. Nun ist das Wasser leer, nur Kaulquappen und Wasserläufer, die Sehnsucht trieb mich zu diesen Socken.

Two of my little Koi, "Sho" and "Ping" from my shopping spree last summer died after the long and hard winter. Now the pond is empty and only the tadpols and water striders are my inspiration for these socks.

Das Ergebnis ist nur ein kalter Abklatsch dessen was ich eigentlich möchte und ohne Punkte gefallen sie mir viel besser.

The result is a cold poor copy of what I actually wanted...and I like it a lot more better without the dot.

Es blieb noch viel Wolle übrig und an den Jaywalkers kommt man einfach nicht vorbei, ich zumindest. Wer kennt dieses geniale Muster nicht! Egal aus welcher Wolle gestrickt, es ist einfach nur schön und eigentlich viel zu schade um nur Socken daraus zu stricken.

There was still a lot of yarn left and you can't just escape the JayWalkers...well, at least I can't. After all, who doesn't know this pattern? It doesn't matter with which yarn you knit the pattern, it simply is just beautiful and it's actually such a shame to just knit socks with it.

Schwarz/Rot/Weiß nimmt kein Ende, es war immer noch genug Wolle für ein weiteres Paar übrig und von jeder Farbe gleich viel! Diszipliniert strickte ich das dritte Paar und entschied mich für ein altes estnisches Spiral- oder Fischmuster. Schon wieder Fische ich weiß, aber irgenwie erinnert es eher an den alten Treppenhausfußboden aus meiner Kindheit.
Das Muster ist ganz simpel und wurde hauptsächlich für Handschuhbündchen verwendet. Die Maschenanzahl muß durch 6 teilbar sein, dann folgt fortlaufend der Rapport:

2 re Maschen / 1 Umschlag / 2 re Maschen / 2 re Maschen re zusammenstricken

Black/red/white, it just doesn't end! There was still enough yarn left for another pair...and enough from each colour! Disciplined, I knit on the third pair and settled on either an old Estonian spiral pattern or a fish pattern. Fish again, I know, but somehow it reminds me of the old floor of the stairwell from my childhood. The pattern is quite simple and it was mainly used for the ribbing on gloves. The number of stitches must be divisible by 6 and it is knit as follows:

K2, yo, k2, k2tog.

Schlagt mehr Maschen als gewöhnlich an, sonst werden es Thrombosestrümpfe. Leider kann ich kein Bild von meinen Twins zeigen, es wird nicht hochgeladen. Garantiert weiß der eine oder andere Blogger, daß ich an diesem kleinen Erstbericht zwei Stunden (mindestens) gesessen bin.

Nun lasse ich es gut sein für heute, bis bald!
